Surge protection at your meter is the first line of defense against power surges that can damage your home's electrical system, appliances, computer equipment, air conditioners and more. By using a surge protector at your meter you provide a level of defense for your entire homes electric system.
To protect you home from power surges FKEC suggests members use
a surge protector mounted at the electric meter in combination
with plug-in surge protectors for
individual voltage sensitive electronic devices.
FKEC offers members several types of meter surge protectors. The devices are similar in the protection they offer but are not universally compatible for every meter. A FKEC Meterperson can help determine which meter surge protector can be installed at your meter and explain difference between the two types.

Meter-Treater – Meter Based Surge Protector
Single Phase (residential & light commercial applications) - $95.00 plus tax
Three Phase (commercial applications) - $190.00 plus tax
Joslyn Surge Tec – MOV Meter Surge Arrestor
$35.00 plus tax
*A $50 installation fee applies to all types of surge protectors.
