Meter Information
On a monthly basis, FKEC's meter readers will go to each member's residence, read the meter and leave. There should be no inconvenience to the member. Please make the meter readers' job easier by keeping the meter accessible and the area near the meter hazard free.
Meter Accuracy and Testing
An electric meter is an extremely accurate recording instrument which measures the use of kilowatt hours. Meters are tested before being installed and then tested on a rotating basis to ensure accuracy. It is rare that a meter is found to run fast and record an increased usage. Like most other machines, meters tend to slow with age. If you believe there is a problem with your meter, contact the Cooperative and FKEC will test the meter for accuracy.
Meter Tampering
Tampering with electric lines or meters is both illegal and extremely dangerous. In addition to a service call charge of $30.00, a no-tamper lock charge of $30.00 and a possible meter test charge of $30.00, an additional $250.00 charge will be imposed on the account should any tampering take place. This means a total charge of $340 for meter tampering. To avoid responsibility for such acts, please contact the Cooperative if you become aware of any tampering with equipment owned by the Cooperative. Only FKEC personnel are authorized to break a meter seal and replace them.
Comparing Electric Bills
There is no way to compare your utility bill with friends and neighbors because you do not use your electric energy the same way. No two families own all the same appliances, do the same
washing and drying, have the same hot water usage, use the same lights, or have the same lifestyles.
If you notice changes in the amount of your electric bill, look at the usage. The dollar amount on the bill depends mostly on the amount of kilowatt hours that go through the meter.
