Members Participate in Board Elections & Annual Meeting
Every year about this time you may start hearing or reading about FKEC's Board of Directors elections and Annual Meeting. Both of these events provide opportunities for you, as member-owners of Florida Keys Electric Cooperative, to participate in the direction of your hometown electric cooperative. Board elections are scheduled for March and the Annual Meeting takes place in April.
BOARD ELECTIONS
FKEC's nine Board members all serve three-year terms, but director retirements and changes through the years have created a cycle where two, three or four directors are up for re-election each year. This year there were four expired seats and all four incumbents decided to stand for re-election. The four candidates were unopposed and were elected in accordance with FKEC bylaws.
But, whether or not the expired seats are contested, FKEC's staff manages the electoral process according to its bylaws and has the process supervised by the Supervisor of Elections. Directors are elected by you -- the energy consumers in the Upper and Middle Keys -- to represent you and your interest in your local electric cooperative. The board has the authority to establish policies and provide operational oversight to promote a progressive, financially-sound utility.
ANNUAL MEETING
FKEC's Annual Meeting offers members a chance to learn about the Cooperative's progress and future plans. This year's meeting on April 19, 2008, will once again be held in conjunction with the Sun 103 Kids Show, making it a day the whole family should enjoy.
Before the meeting begins, FKEC will provide lunch and registration gifts to all registered members and their families. The meeting itself will be held in the state-of-the-art Coral Shores High School auditorium and will be preceded by an informative and entertaining video presentation. In addition to my annual CEO Report, Board President David Ritz will also present his annual address.
Immediately after the meeting, FKEC will hold a free prize raffle for home electronics and appliances, so we hope to see you there!
