POWER PAUSE

Power Pause is part of a coordinated plan developed by FKEC to meet our community's increasing energy needs now and in the future. By effectively managing our energy resources, we can help defer high demand usage during peak times and maintain low rates.

Participating in the POWER PAUSE program saves you money. As long as you use at least 500 kilowatt hours of electricity a month, your electric bill will be reduced by the following credit amounts:

Residential accounts credit:

  • $2.00 per month on central air/heat conditioning.
  • $1.50 per month on water heaters.
  • $1.50 per month swimming pool pumps.

Commercial accounts credit:

  • $1.00 per ton on central air/heat conditioning per month.

Commercial accounts are not eligible for water heaters over 30 amps or swimming pool pump control.

How The Program Works

At no charge to you, a POWER PAUSE switch will be installed at your home. The switch is radio controlled and gives FKEC the ability to control cycling of central air conditioning units, their heating strips, water heaters and swimming pool pumps. You select which appliances you will allow FKEC to control. Controlling these appliances when the system is experiencing peak energy demands reduces FKEC's purchased power costs. The cost savings are passed directly through to all customers.

The following control schedules have been developed to most effectively reduce energy demand without affecting your comfort:

Central air conditioners with heat strips:

  • between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM
  • typically, for no more than 7.5 minutes in a 30 minute period.

Water heaters and swimming pool pumps:

  • between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM
  • typically, for no more than 15 minutes in a 30 minute period.
