Florida Keys Electric Cooperative was recognized by the City of Marathon on July 8 with a Mayor's Proclamation presented during the City Council Meeting at the Marathon Government Center.
The proclamation commends FKEC for its on-going service and support to the community and for working more than 570,000 accident-free man hours to date.
Mayor Randy Mearns (right) presented the certificate to FKEC officials (from left) Carl Paul, Jim Hooper, and Tim Planer.
"We owe this honor to the awareness and effort of every individual employee who has kept the company working safely," said Hooper, FKEC's Director of Job Training and Safety.

Proclamation of Appreciation To The Florida Keys Electric Cooperative
WHEREAS, The Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) has worked 570,000 plus accident-free man hours from April 1, 2001, to present; and
WHEREAS, FKEC has been serving the Marathon community as a non-profit utility since 1940; and
WHEREAS, FKEC maintains 794 miles of overhead line and 9 generators in Marathon, services more than 30,000 accounts and employs 124 residents of the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, FKEC volunteers countless hours to supporting the local community; donates time, materials, and funds to worthy local causes year-round; contributes hundreds of thousands of dollars to residents in need through Operation Round-Up; and returns millions of dollars to residents annually as Capital Credits; and
WHEREAS, FKEC continues to provide safe, reliable electricity and to serve its friends and neighbors with a true cooperative spirit.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARATHON, FLORIDA:
The City of Marathon expresses its appreciation to the Florida Keys Electric Cooperative for their service and support to the community.
The City of Marathon also extends congratulations for having worked 570,000 plus accident-free man hours from April 1, 2001, to present.
