Co-op Members Encouraged to Update Phone Numbers.
Florida Keys Electric Cooperative would like to thank its Call Center
volunteers for handling 585 calls for service while the Keys felt the
affects of Hurricane Dennis. The live call center was staffed continuously
by volunteers working 12-hour shifts throughout the storm.
Even with the Call Center volunteers answering more than a dozen incoming
lines, FKEC's phone system did experience busy periods.
For future heavy calling instances, FKEC would like to remind its
member-consumers of the following: 1) Update your phone number with FKEC
if your number has changed; 2) If your call is answered by FKEC's automated
reporting system, your outage report is recorded once you enter your phone
number; 3) Please be patient and call again if all lines are busy; 4)
Linemen cannot be dispatched to make repairs until winds drop below tropical
storm force; and 5) High winds can cause extensive damage, so repairs are
scheduled in priority order.
FKEC first corrects dangerous or hazardous electrical conditions and
restores essential community services. The restoration effort then focuses
on returning service to the most consumers in the shortest amount of time.
FKEC appreciates the patience of those members who experienced extended
outages during Hurricane Dennis. Of FKEC's 31,000 members from North Key
Largo to Marathon, approximately 1,500 lost power at some point during the
storm.
