FKEC JOINS COMMUNITY IN SALUTING AMERICAN SOLDIERS
Florida Keys Electric Cooperative employees and community members welcomed six wounded soldiers who passed through Tavernier Sunday evening, March 5.
To show support and gratitude to the soldiers for their service to our country, FKEC positioned its largest highline truck in front of the Tavernier bayside operations facility with the boom raised flying a 20 foot by 30 foot American Flag. Attendees were also given small flags to wave as the group passed.
A group of local citizens organized an all-expense paid four-day trip to the Keys for the soldiers who were all severely wounded in the current Iraq conflict. The Monroe County Sheriff Department met the group at the county line and provided a police escort from there to the Islander Resort in Islamorada.
The soldiers are: SGT Daniel Regan-34, SGT Philip Stowe-30, SGT Chris Hoffman-21, SPC Oshada Samanarayaka-21, SPC Wesley Shriver-27 and SPC Jarmarco Stewart-26
