TRUCK ACCIDENT CAUSES POWER OUTAGE IN MARATHON
On March 22 at 4:34 p.m., a truck snagged an overhead phone cable near Marathon airport, breaking two wooden distribution poles and damaging a concrete pole (see photo below). The resulting localized power outage affected approximately 990 customers from mile marker 52 to 53.5. There were no injuries reported from the accident, only property damage.
Power was rerouted through other distribution lines to all of the affected areas except the airport by 6 p.m. The airport was running on generator power until about 2:45 a.m. when FKEC repair crews completed the replacement of the poles and reconnected the power equipment.
