RELEASE

OUTAGE REPORT
A power outage affected 2,945 members of Florida Keys Electric Cooperative last night from 11:42 p.m. until 12:27 a.m.
The outage was caused by a fault on a distribution line, which caused a breaker to operate in the Tavernier Substation. Under normal conditions, this fault would have been cleared quickly.
However, FKEC currently has one of its two Tavernier Substation transformers out of service for routine maintenance, so FKEC's system operators had to check the lines and test the system to confirm that no major problems existed in the affected areas before power could be safely restored.
Outage areas were from Orange Lane to Venetian Shores on the bayside on Plantation Key, and from the Tavernier Substation to Lime Grove Estates at mile marker 95 on Key Largo.
So far in 2006, FKEC's electric system has been 99.98% reliable, with an average 1.46 hours of outage time per member to date.
