On July 25, Florida Keys Electric Cooperative hosted a "Career Exploration Day" for a local pre-school playgroup called the Keys Kids Playgroup. FKEC Member Service Representative Maria Jones coordinated the event, which included a live safety demonstration by FKEC linemen, an electricity safety video created for young children and a hands-on tour of an FKEC bucket truck.
Journeyman Linemen Eddie Dudley and Chris Zischka volunteered for the demonstrations, which included Dudley explaining the different gear and tools on the truck and Zischka ascending in the bucket. The children all received free small FKEC hard hats and safety coloring books and enjoyed complimentary juice and snacks. FKEC's Barbara Mungovan also helped organize the event.
