Three Power Outages in Islamorada Area

Three recent power outages in the Islamorada area were caused by faults in the Islamorada Substation, but the root cause of the faults remains under investigation.

The outage days and times were as follows:

May 11 - 8:41 p.m. to 9:56 p.m.
May 16 - 7:15 p.m. to 8:10 p.m.
May 22 - 10:42 p.m. to 12:02 a.m.

The outages affected 3,602 co-op members living in Islamorada below the Snake Creek Bridge.

"We appreciate the patience of our Islamorada customers as we continue to troubleshoot the relays and breakers within the Islamorada substation," said FKEC CEO Scott Newberry.

In 2008, FKEC's overall system reliability was 99.99% with an average of only 45 minutes out per customer for the year. This is four times more reliable than the national average of 202 minutes for all U.S. cooperatives.
