Reserve your free native tree while supplies last!
In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, Florida Keys Electric Co-op is again offering an Energy-Saving Tree Giveaway Program. To reserve a free native tree and learn the right places to plant the tree to potentially save energy, FKEC members should visit the Arbor Day website.
The online energy-saving program uses GSI software to show members a satellite image of their home and indicate where to plant the native tree for the best energy savings. The online program will run until October 26 or while supplies last — Trees are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tree pick-up days are scheduled for November 4 and 5, and will involve health-safe social distancing protocols. More information is available when you place your reservation.
When planted properly, a single tree can save a homeowner up to 20% on energy costs. However, trees do much more than provide energy savings to you, the homeowner. They also provide tangible benefits for the entire community: improved air quality, reduced stormwater runoff, beautification of your neighborhood, reduced urban heat island effect, and a smaller carbon footprint, just to name a few.
