Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) strives to provide reliable service. When outages occur, we work to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible.
Report Power Outages
If the power goes out, check your electrical panel first. If your fuses and circuit breakers seem fine, and/or your neighbors are also without power, contact FKEC to report your outage.

If your mobile number is enrolled, simply text “out” to 1-855-940-4007.
We’ve enhanced our communications. To receive FKEC outage and restoration updates, you must have current email addresses and mobile phone numbers listed in your SmartHub Contact Methods and be enrolled in Outage Texting. If you have not verified your information and enrollment since March 2026, you may miss important outage, storm and emergency notifications.
To enroll in Outage Texting, log in to SmartHub and go to Settings → Contact Methods to verify your mobile phone number. Then go to Settings → Manage Notifications → Service to enroll in Outage Texting and select other notifications important to you.

Before the Power Goes Out
Update your account information.
Update your account information. Make sure FKEC has your current phone number(s) on file.
- Our computers automatically recognize your phone number and match it to your FKEC account for a faster response.
- Make changes online using SmartHub or call (305) 852-2431 with updates.

Provide meter access.
To make repairs, FKEC needs 24-hour access to your meter.
Have your trees properly trimmed.
Trim trees to minimize their potential impact on your home and your power system.
- Do not attempt to trim vegetation growing on or near overhead power lines.
- Contact FKEC at (305) 852-2431 or submit a Tree Trim Request online.
Keep your yard free of debris.
During hurricane season remove anything that could cause damage from your yard.
Make plans for medical equipment.
- If you or someone in your home is dependent on electric-powered, life-sustaining medical equipment, it is your responsibility to have an emergency plan for backup power or a plan to relocate when a storm warning is issued. FKEC cannot ensure power restoration based on medical emergency needs.
- Monroe County maintains a Special Needs Registry designed to assist county residents who need transportation or sheltering assistance due to a declared emergency.

Report Downed Power Lines or Unsafe Equipment
Consider all power lines energized and dangerous. Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately by calling 911 and/or FKEC at (305) 852-2431.
